Ghana: 2 Cops, 1 Civilian Arrested For Car Snatching

Two former police constables and a civilian have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for snatching an unregistered 4x4 Infiniti vehicle.
The suspects are Constable Augustine Nti Pepra, 31; Constable Eric Anto, 27; and Antony Dagadu, 30, a plumber.

According to the Accra Regional Police Commander yesterday, the Regional Police CID Operation team had information that a group of men had snatched an unregistered 4×4 Infiniti vehicle at Gomoa Buduburam Camp in Kasoa on April 12, 2013 at about 3.45am.

DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said a team of policemen rushed to the scene and arrested Constable Augustine with the snatched vehicle.

A search in the vehicle revealed a police uniform and an amount of GH¢1,700.

DCOP Yohuno said investigation revealed that the vehicle was snatched from its owner on April 11, 2013 at about 10.30pm in Koforidua and transported to the Gomoa Buduburam Camp.

The next day, the police succeeded in arresting Eric and Anthony in their hideouts at Kasoa and Accra respectively.

Investigations further revealed that Augustine was stationed at Gomoa Fetteh while Eric used to belong to the Sunyani Rapid Development Force.

The dismissed constables, according to the police, had teamed up with civilians to engage in snatching vehicles for sale.

According to DCOP Yohuno, because the dismissed constables operate in police uniform they easily go through at checkpoints.

He therefore cautioned policemen on barrier duties to be wary of people in police uniforms.

The commander invited members of the public who have fallen victim to the suspects to come to the police to assist in investigations.
