No Reported Death In The Bridge Collapse In Washington State, US


The bridge over the Skagit River in norther Washington State known as the Interstate 5 bridge collapsed on Thursday evening.

The four lanes bridge which is said to be more than a century old and connects Seattle with Canada, sent people and cars into the water when it gave way.

US authorities say, there was no death, 3 people were taken to hospital, thanks to the quick reaction of emergency service workers.

A resident who identified himself as Xavier Grospe,  that lives near the river said, he saw 3 partially submerged cars and the drivers sitting on top of the vehicle or on the edge of the open windows waiting for rescuers.

"It does not look like anybody's in danger right now," said Grospe.

A damage red car and a pick-up truck were seen in the water which appeared so shallow it barely reached the top of the car's bonnet, Komo-TV reported.


 A man who saw the disaster unfolding told Skagit Valley Herald he felt the vibration first and when he looked in his mirror. He saw part of the bridge had collapse after he had crossed.

"I thought something was wrong  with my car at first," the man said.

The bridge has a sufficient rating of 57.4out of 100 according to federal records.

Investigations about the collapse of the bridge is underway.
