Life Sentence For 4 Convicted Bombers In Nigeria

Nigeria's official news agency says a court has sentenced four alleged Islamic extremists to life in prison for two bombings in 2012 that killed 19 people.

Prosecutors brought conspiracy and assault charges against the suspects, though Nigeria has strict new anti-terrorism laws that call for the death penalty for attackers that cause fatalities.

The four men are believed to belong to the Boko Haram Islamic sect that is terrorising northeast Nigeria with attacks on schools.

The News Agency of Nigeria said the court in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, on Tuesday sentenced the men who were found guilty of masterminding and carrying out an 8 April 2012, bombing on an electoral commission office that killed 16 people and a 10 July bombing of a church that killed three.
