A Millionaire In The UK Builds Private Island

One wealthy UK landowner decided to save himself the hassle and instead had his own private island built in the middle of a landlocked country estate in Cambridgeshire - north of London and 80km away from the nearest beach.

The island was built from scratch in the middle of a lake on the 60-acre estate by Master Wishmakers, a company that specialises in building fantastical creations, typically children's playhouses and rooms, for wealthy clients.

Master Wishmakers said the owner of the estate wished to remain anonymous but he was under 40 and "loves all things pirate".

The island includes a landscaped beach, stream, lagoon and waterfall and buildings made to look like they're from the 18th century, or perhaps the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise.

There is also a working pub, dubbed The Black Dubloon, a guest house, beach hut and a sun deck for all those knees-up pirate shindigs.

"We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and this is why we have worked with only the best scenic artists to add those final touches that really make Challis Island the most spectacular pirate adventure since the 18th century," Master Wishmakers said on its website.

The company said the fantasy island was built as part of its "Limitless" service, which caters to fulfilling "the wishes of even the most avid imaginations - for adults as well as children".
